About Lucy

Curls are the first thing and they are entirely her own: dark brown, long, and with a mind of their own in any weather off the river. Lucy measures 163 cm, slender, and the brown eyes sit in a face that gives away her mood about half a second before she means it to. She dresses softly, knits and long skirts and a coat she has clearly owned for years, and there is nothing performed about it. In a district built almost entirely out of glass she looks like someone who arrived by boat.

At 24 she is gentle company and quietly stubborn. Her English is slow, with pauses she feels no obligation to fill. She sings, badly and enthusiastically, and she knows the words to an unreasonable number of songs written before she was born. Old buildings are the thing she is most likely to talk over you about. She dislikes noise for its own sake and has walked out of two rooftop bars in her life, which she tells you like a confession and is clearly rather proud of.

Her Isle of Dogs evening belongs to The Ferry House on Ferry Street, the oldest pub on the Island, a low room five minutes' walk from Island Gardens and about two hundred and fifty years older than everything you can see from its door. She takes the corner table, orders something unfashionable, and lets the evening lengthen. Supper follows nearby or back up the Wharf, whichever you prefer. Pimlico is home, so she comes over on the Jubilee line and calls the crossing of the river the best part of the journey.

The island is described on the Isle of Dogs page. Her hour runs from £250 and the longer formats are on rates. Tell booking the night and she will take it from there.

Booking her evening

A long sit and a walk suit two hours at £500. Add supper to the plan and it becomes three hours at £700. She would rather be told the plan is quiet than have it dressed up as something grander.

Her figures are the desk figures, printed in full on the rates page, and the whole arrangement runs in one thread from the first line to the confirmation.

An evening with Lucy

This is the unfashionable evening and she guards it. Down Westferry Road or out at Island Gardens on the DLR, five minutes on foot, and into a pub with a ceiling low enough to make everyone speak more quietly. She takes the corner, sits back, and asks what you were like at twenty. There is no view to look at, which she counts as the main attraction. Later there is the walk to the river wall at Island Gardens where Greenwich sits across the water looking exactly as it does in the paintings, and the foot tunnel entrance stands there daring you. She will go down it if you are game and complain the whole way, cheerfully. Supper is back up at the Wharf in fifteen minutes or nearby in five, and she is genuinely content with either.

Before you write

Lucy, in her own words

No tower bars at all?

I have tried. You spend the first ten minutes on the view and the next two hours shouting over a sound system. I would rather hear you.

How old is that pub?

There has been one on that spot since the seventeen hundreds. The building has been knocked about since, but the address has been pouring drinks a very long time.

Will you go through the foot tunnel?

Under the Thames, at night, with the tiles dripping? Of course. I will make a great deal of noise about it and enjoy every step.

Remarks

What guests have written

Nothing is written here for Lucy yet, which is usually what discretion looks like in E14. A note appears only when a guest writes one, she agrees to it, and the desk has checked that it reads as a first name, a month and nothing private.
