Wapping E1W after the last commuters: warehouse lofts, quiet river
Wapping High Street is a canyon of brick a few metres wide, and after 20:00 there is almost nobody in it. The Overground runs beneath the street, the river runs behind the buildings, and between the two there is very little reason for anyone to be here who does not live here. That is the entire appeal.

The Overground, and what to do once it stops
Wapping station, on the London Overground, is two minutes from most of the High Street and runs through to Shoreditch one way and Canada Water the other. Shadwell, six minutes north, gives you the Overground and the DLR on a single walk. Tower Hill, on the Circle and District lines, is fifteen minutes west on foot along the river.
The last Overground trains go around midnight, and after that the district is reached by road along The Highway: eight minutes from Tower Bridge, twelve from the City. It is a short run at any hour, which makes a late booking in Wapping easier to fill than an early one. Plan on forty five minutes from a confirmed booking.
Lobbies within a short ride
The hotel at E1W 1LD stands on St Katharine Docks at the western end of the district, ten minutes from Wapping station and the only large one carrying an E1W postcode. The grand address at EC3N 4AJ is five minutes further on the other side of the road, behind the old Port of London building.
The room facing the castle at EC3N 4DJ and the studios at E1 8EN, up in Aldgate, complete the short list of places guests here tend to stay. None of them is a partner, an affiliate or anything else of ours. Most Wapping work, though, happens in the conversions themselves: Oliver's Wharf, Gun Wharves, New Crane and the smaller blocks off Wapping Wall.
What E1W asks for
Discretion, and not in the euphemistic sense. These are buildings where the neighbours know each other by name. She arrives dressed for a Saturday dinner rather than a nightclub, walks in once, and there is nothing to notice. The desk never calls a building and never leaves anything at a door.
Lengths run long here. Two hours at £500 leads, with four hours at £900 just behind it, because anywhere with a kitchen means crossing into the City or heading east to the Wharf. Overnight at £1,800 is more common in E1W than in any other district on this map, which says something about the flats.

Walking distance, roughly
Limehouse is the natural neighbour, fifteen minutes east along the river path or two Overground stops via Shadwell. Tower Bridge and St Katharine Docks sit at the western end of the High Street, a ten minute walk. Aldgate is twelve minutes north through the back streets and is where the district's late cars come from.
Beyond those, Bank and Monument is nine minutes by road for a City table, and Canary Wharf is ten minutes east if the evening wants height and glass instead of brick. All of it is Zone 1 or 2 and the fare is inside the fee. Figures live on rates and the sequence on booking.

No, and she will have been here before. When the hour is late she is dropped at the door rather than at the station, and the desk holds her arrival time and the address in writing so nobody is standing about looking for a buzzer.

Yes. Give the building when you write and the flat when she is five minutes away. What we will not do is send her to a street with no number at all, because that wastes her time and yours.
Is anything open near me after eleven?
In E1W itself, one or two of the river pubs and very little else. For a late table the realistic options are the City, nine minutes west, or the Wharf, ten minutes east. Say which when you book and the length can be set to suit.
