From the Wharf the Jubilee line reaches London Bridge in eight minutes without a change, which makes SE1 the closest thing this side of the river has to a second office. A booking that starts in E14 can finish under the Shard before the first drink has gone flat.

Platforms and the eight minute run
London Bridge station puts the Jubilee line, the Northern line and fifteen National Rail platforms under one roof, two minutes from the Shard lobby and four from Borough Market. Borough, Northern line only, is six minutes south and the better stop for the high street restaurants. Monument sits eight minutes away across the bridge itself.
The eight minutes from Canary Wharf is the figure that matters here, because a large share of SE1 bookings are made by people who have spent the day in E14. From the West End, fifteen minutes on the Jubilee. By road after midnight, twenty minutes from the Wharf through the Rotherhithe tunnel.
Five lobbies between the station and the water
The hotel at SE1 9QU occupies the upper floors of the Shard, which makes it the only one on this site where the floor number is part of the address you give us. Another at SE1 9SG stands directly opposite the station entrance, two minutes and no weather. A third at SE1 2BY sits in More London, six minutes east along the river.
Over on Bankside, SE1 0UG and SE1 0NZ are both about ten minutes west on foot. All five are simply addresses where guests stay; no hotel on this site is a partner of ours, and a lift lobby is the only thing we ever need from one.
Two SE1 evenings
The first is vertical: a room high in the tower, a window facing north over the City, and ninety minutes at £400 or two hours at £500 that never leaves the building. Give us the floor when you write, because the lifts here want a room number before they will move.
The second is horizontal, and it is Borough Market and the Bankside walk: a table at seven, a river path that runs all the way to Blackfriars, and four hours at £900 to hold the whole of it. SE1 is one of the few districts on our map where the outdoor half of an evening works as well as the indoor half.
Who writes from here: people over from an E14 office who would rather not travel back out again, theatre and gallery visitors staying on Bankside, and residents of the newer blocks behind the station. The district takes more three hour bookings at £700 than any other on this map, because almost every SE1 evening turns out to have two halves.

Either side of the bridge
Bank and Monument is nine minutes north over the bridge and the City of London begins immediately behind it. Borough and Bermondsey run south and east from the station, each about ten minutes on foot, and Southwark is the same distance west along the river.

She gives your name at the sky lobby desk and is directed up, exactly as any guest of yours would be. It goes more smoothly if the floor and room are in the confirmation, so she is not standing in a lift lobby working it out.
Can she meet me at Borough Market?
Until about 17:00 on a trading day, yes, though it is loud and crowded. Once the stalls close it becomes a good meeting point and it is two minutes from the station. Name a corner rather than the market as a whole.
I am coming from a Wharf office. Should she start there or here?
Here, almost always. Eight minutes of train together is eight minutes of the booking, and the clock starts when she reaches you. Give the SE1 address and travel yourself.
Is a river walk realistic in winter?
Between More London and Bankside, yes, unless it is raining sideways. Twenty minutes at a slow pace and lit the whole way. She will tell you honestly whether her shoes agree with the idea.
Should the length match my restaurant booking exactly?
It should cover it comfortably rather than exactly. A two hour table inside a two hour booking leaves nothing on either side. Three hours at £700 is the usual fix, and Maude will say so when she sees the times.
