About Milena
Nobody misses Milena arriving. Height 175 cm, the build curvy, the black hair straight and past her shoulder blades, with brown eyes that survey a room slowly before they settle. She dresses in a way that makes the height the point rather than something to be disguised: long lines, a belted coat, heels she has no intention of apologising for. The overall effect is striking and slightly formal, and it lasts about as long as it takes her to sit down and ask you a question that nobody has bothered to ask you in months.
At 25 she is thoughtful company with a streak of bluntness that arrives without warning and is usually right. Her English is unhurried and she is comfortable with a pause in a way that people who talk for a living find unnerving. Theatre is her genuine subject, the smaller the room the better, and she has strong views about intervals. She reads scripts rather than reviews. She is kind to waiting staff, terrible at pretending to like a bad production, and very good at getting an evening back on track when it stalls.
Her London Bridge evening is usually the Menier Chocolate Factory on Southwark Street, an old warehouse with about two hundred seats where the actors are close enough to make people nervous. She takes the early curtain, eats afterwards rather than before, and walks the eight minutes back towards Borough on purpose. Home is South Kensington, and the Jubilee line carries her across town to the theatre door with a quarter of an hour to spare.

An evening with Milena
She prefers the theatre first and supper after, and once you have done it that way round you will understand why. The old chocolate warehouse holds about two hundred people and the front row is close enough to see an actor decide something, which she says is the whole reason to bother leaving the house. She will not talk during, obviously, and she will not summarise at the interval either. Afterwards is the good part: eight minutes on foot back towards Borough, an argument about whether the second act earned the first, and a table somewhere that is still serving at half past ten. She is decisive about food and undecided about endings, and she will say straight out when she wants the evening to run longer.

What if I do not like theatre?
Then say so and we will do something else. I would rather sit in a bar with someone interested than next to a man checking his watch in the dark.
Why eat afterwards?
Because a good production ruins your appetite for twenty minutes and then gives it back with something to talk about.
How tall in heels?
About 183 cm, and I have stopped taking the flat shoes as an apology. If the height bothers someone, we were never going to get on.
