About Samanta
Samanta does not raise her voice and has never needed to. Height 174 cm, a slim frame, dark brown hair to the middle of her back, brown eyes, and a stillness at a table that makes people finish their sentences more carefully. Her style is precise and almost masculine in its restraint: a well cut trouser suit as often as a dress, a plain shirt, a watch that means something to her and nothing to anyone else. She takes the seat facing the room out of habit and then forgets she has done it.
At 27 she is serious company without being heavy going. She has English alone and is spare with it, saying one sentence where most people use four and letting the gap do some work. Her humour is quiet and lands late. She reads contracts for pleasure, which sounds like a joke and is not, and she is genuinely fascinated by how people talk themselves into decisions. She is very hard to impress with money and very easy to impress with competence.
In Canary Wharf she goes to Goodman on South Quay, a steakhouse three minutes from the South Quay platform with dark wood, low light and a room that hums rather than shouts. She orders rare, sends back nothing, and treats the wine list as a problem to be solved efficiently. Afterwards the walk back over the South Quay footbridge takes three minutes and gives you the towers reflected in flat water. Mayfair is home, and she is east most weeks without regarding it as an expedition.
More about the towers is on the Canary Wharf page. £250 opens the hour and the longer evenings are printed on rates; booking will hold a table and a time in the same message.

An evening with Samanta
Eight o'clock on South Quay, a room of dark wood and low lamps where the volume never gets above a hum, and a table she has asked for at the back. She orders quickly and well, rare, and does not explain herself. What makes the evening is the way she listens: fully, without her own reply already loaded, and with an occasional short question that turns out to be the one that mattered. She is excellent at a table with colleagues, because she can hold a conversation at whatever register the room requires and never once sounds like she is performing it. Afterwards the footbridge takes three minutes and the water under it is completely still, and she usually says nothing at all on the way across.
Samanta, in her own words
You actually read contracts for fun?
I read the clauses people agreed to without noticing. It is the closest thing there is to reading someone's mind six months before the argument.
Are you comfortable at a business dinner?
Very. Tell me who will be sitting there and what the evening is meant to do, and nothing about my presence will be awkward.
Steak every time?
Not every time, but the room matters more than the menu. Dark wood and low lamps make people honest at about the ninety minute mark.

What guests have written
Nothing is written here for Samanta yet, which is usually what discretion looks like in E14. A note appears only when a guest writes one, she agrees to it, and the desk has checked that it reads as a first name, a month and nothing private.
